Then if my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sins and restore their land. 15 My eyes will be open and my ears attentive to every prayer made in this place. 2 Chronicles 7:13-15
This is a familiar portion of scripture for most. God has appeared to Solomon following the completion of the temple with specific promises. Knowing the heart of His chosen ones can be easily led astray God first gives the solution found in verses 14-15 for when not if this happens. God then speaks to Solomon personally ““As for you, if you faithfully follow me as David your father did, obeying all my commands, decrees, and regulations, then I will establish the throne of your dynasty”, and concerning the covenant between God and his father David “For I made this covenant with your father, David, when I said, ‘One of your descendants will always rule over Israel.’‘ God then issues a warning
““But if you or your descendants abandon me and disobey the decrees and commands I have given you, and if you serve and worship other gods, then I will uproot the people from this land that I have given them. I will reject this Temple that I have made holy to honor my name. I will make it an object of mockery and ridicule among the nations.
There are many similarities in our nation and the nation of Israel. The United States has enjoyed tremendous blessing and endured many trails and troubles in it’s short history. We have made mistakes, have allowed injustice but somehow we have always corrected our course, found the way back. I am not so sure that will happen this time, it certainly will not if we continue to pursue our present course. We have allowed the slaughter of millions of innocence, embraced a culture of pleasure that is in part responsible for the murder of these little ones, we have rejected God in our public education system, banned Him from the market place and redefined marriage to fit our desires and will.
Some who claim the name of Christ are no better, with divorce rates as high and sin as prevalent as those who reject Him. Indulging in sexual immorality, pornography and promoting a powerless Gospel that reduces Jesus to little more than a suggestion, not someone to lay down your life for. I realize this sounds harsh but the times we are in are serious. The enemy is advancing on every side and we are more worried about attendance and whats for lunch than waging the warfare Paul speaks about in Ephesians 6.
It is time to wake up! To see things as they are, realize we are at war, and find your place in the battle*. It is time not for a day of prayer, but a season of prayer. Praying like Nehemiah** and Daniel*** and the saints of old who would pray until they broke through. Fasting in whatever way that denies you, (media, food, etc;) and setting yourself apart to pray will position you to pray effectively. James says the fervent effectual prayer of the righteous accomplishes much.
The time is now!
