40 Days of Prayer For America

40 days of prayer

Whoever becomes president, they are not the answer to our greatest problems as a nation
In the book of Nehemiah we see one mans response to the problems of his nation.
In chapter one we see Nehemiah’s response when he hears the news that his beloved city Jerusalem “Is a disaster. The survivors in exile have been wronged and are hated. The wall of Jerusalem has been reduced to piles of rock, and its gates consumed by flame.”*
Nehemiah does not form a committee, organize an army, rush to the authorities for help and relief, or organize a protest
In fact Nehemiah is so overwhelmed with grief at first that the only thing he can do he can only sit and weep.
The grief is overwhelming but it drives Nehemiah to seek an audience of the True God of heaven, the One who sets up nations and brings them down.
His prayers are forthright and honest.
He first asks God to notice him, to hear his prayers.
He praises God and reminds Him of His promises.
He asks for God’s attention to the situation before him
He confesses the sins that has brought exile and hardship to God’s people.
He confesses we have sinned, “I confess our wickedness, we have acted extremely wickedly toward You, we have rejected Your commands
Finally he reminds God that despite their unfaithfulness, God in past times promised that if they returned to Him “I will gather you and bring you to the place of My choosing, where My very name dwells.”
Our nation is in trouble, we to are guilty of great wickedness. We to have rejected what is right and good for the sake of pleasure and our own desires.
It does not matter what president or government we have. Nehemiah’s assistance came from a pagan king.
What does matter is that we pray. Pray for our leaders, pray for our people, pray that God who is sovereign, would intervene in our affairs. I will post a short devotional everyday for the next 40 days to help shape our prayers for our nation. You can add whatever you feel the Spirit is directing you to pray. You can also visit the 40 days Facebook page @ http://www.facebook.com/40daysofprayerforamerica
I am calling all who will, to pray over the next 40 days, and see what our God will do.

  1. This is great. I am thankful that God has moved you to do this. My husband and I have been praying for this country, and many times have repented of our own sinfulness, as well as that of our nation. I didn’t find the 40 Days of Prayer until March 8, and then I didn’t notice it was connected to your page. There are many other believers who will no doubt be joining in. Re-blogging and sharing on social media.
