40 Days of Prayer for America-Day 40

40 days of prayer

I will thank You O Lord among all the people….

I will sing your praises among the nations.
For your unfailing love is higher than the heavens.
Your faithfulness reaches to the clouds.
Be exalted, O God, above the highest heavens.
May your glory shine over all the earth.

Now rescue your beloved people.
Answer and save us by your power. Psalm 108:3-6

Today we end our journey of 40 Days of Prayer for America.

My prayer is that it will not end here, but instead be the beginning of our commitment to prayer. Prayer not only for our nation, but prayer for all people everywhere, for nations and people groups,  wherever there are those who need of light in this dark world. Light that comes from the “Good News” the saving power of Jesus Christ.

Nations and kingdoms will come and go, presidents and leaders will appear for a brief time and they to will pass, even this world we live in will pass away. But In the larger picture God uses all these things to accomplish His greater purposes, these events are leading to a conclusion. I think Phillip Yancey said it well in summing up the story of the Bible, “God gets His family back”. From the first book to the last the Bible tells of wayward children and the torturous lengths God will go to bring them home. In deed, the entire drama ends with a huge family reunion in the book of Revelation. *

It would be easy to get caught up in all the events surrounding the coming presidential election. It is arguably a very important time in our nation. Maybe one of the most important we will witness. But we must not forget the purposes that God has in this time in our history and pray as Jesus instructed us to pray “Your kingdom come, Your will be done. On earth as it is in heaven!

Amen
