40 Days of Prayer for America-Day 4

hands-of-peace

If there is one thing we need now it is peace…

You are the sovereign ruler, the mover of mountains, the victor of impossible victories. You are Lord over all, over our nation that is in turmoil, over hatred, racial tension, and the forces that divide us.

There is nothing you can’t do. So I pray, even though it seems impossible:

Give us peace.

Bring an end to violence and hatred and discord. Bring justice to the downtrodden, restoration to the marginalized and abused, hope to the hopeless. Guide all those in positions of power—whether that power is political or physical or social—and give them wisdom to use their power wisely. Give them, and all of us, the grace to admit when we are wrong and to seek forgiveness. Give us the grace to forgive. And as we walk through this troubled time help us to remember people will never know true peace until they know the Prince of Peace.

Help us to be peacemakers. Help us see Your face in the faces of the people around us. Give us courage to love one another even when love seems like a risk. Give us compassion for those who are unlike us. Teach us to listen to those we disagree with, to hear stories that make us uncomfortable. Heal the hatred in the world around us by healing our own hearts first.

Bring peace Lord Jesus to our nation…

Don’t be anxious about things; instead, pray. Pray about everything. He longs to hear your requests, so talk to God about your needs and be thankful for what has come.  And know that the peace of God (a peace that is beyond any and all of our human understanding) will stand watch over your hearts and minds in Jesus, the Anointed One. Philippians 4:6-7

Thanks to Gregory Coles for this prayer!
