What Would Jesus Do?

40 Days of Prayer For America-Day 14This was written by a local pastors wife. Great wisdom for these troubled times.

What would Jesus do if He was here now?

My heart has been so burdened over the last little while as I watch this election play out in my news feed. I had considered just disappearing from Facebook for a month, because I really hate seeing all my friends this way. As I have been truly searching for God’s heart on this issue, I finally feel I have some clarity.
Saddle up Christians, this word is strong.
So many Christians have forgotten what our purpose is. We are to be continually becoming more like Christ. So when I look to Jesus’s behavior, to pattern my own after Him, I never once see him debating who should be in control of the government.
Or speaking out on governmental practices that were unfair.
Or screaming about His right to religious liberty.
He walked with those who were hurting.
He ate with those who were practicing in the unfair taxes.
He took a route through a worthless town to speak with a prostitute.
He spoke life even when he was on the cross being MURDERED!!!!!
HE WENT and DID and walked with the hurting.
CHRISTIAN, no matter WHO becomes president, they will not fix the brokenness that WE INDIVIDUALLY should be helping to heal. And, let’s face it, if we were truly the Christians in the streets that we claim to be in the pews, we wouldn’t be in this mess in the first place.
You want to speak for the unborn???? Don’t let the next supreme court justice do it for you. Go volunteer at your local crisis pregnancy center. Go love on these women who seem to have no other options. Because that is where Jesus would be.
You want someone to protect those being bullied???? Raise kids who understand that every life is precious in God’s sight. Instill in them the value of every person around them.
Some people say “what if we lose our religious liberties?????” There are certain things that can never be taken from us. They cannot take your Love. Or your Kindness. Or you Peace. Or your Compassion. Or your Testimony. Those things can never be silenced. 2nd Timothy 1:7 says, “For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline.”

This fear we feel is not from God. He is in control, just as He has always been. It is from taking our eyes off of the thing that really, truly matters.
I am in no way saying that your vote does not matter in this. But it is for sure not what is most important right now. We are missing an amazing opportunity to witness to a lost world. Look at your most recent Facebook posts and comments. Do you see Jesus patterned there? If not, you have lost sight of what is MOST important.

For I know the plans I have for you, says the Eternal God, plans for peace, not evil, to give you a future and a hope-never forget that. Jeremiah 29:11
