But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. – Galatians 5:16
Paul opens chapter 5 of Galatians explaining why our freedom, gained by Christ on the cross, is so valuable. And in one sentence he explains how we stay free.
“Walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh”.
Looking at the list of “desires of the flesh” in verses 19-21 it is clear that this simple command is much easier said than done. There are so many things on that list that compete for our attention, demand our desires So how do we walk in the Spirit?
I believe it involves several things but begins with the instructions found in Romans 12:2
“Do not allow the world to mold you into its own image. Instead be transformed from the inside out by renewing your mind”.
What we think, what we believe, how we see life dictates how we live it. Following the Spirit, following the flesh
We go where we know.
