But the things that began to happen after that were so great and beautiful that I cannot write them. And for us this the end of all the stories, and we can most truly say that they all lived happily ever after. But for them it was only the beginning of the real story. All their life in this world and all their adventures in Narnia had only been the cover and the title page: now at last they were beginning Chapter One of the Great Story which no one on earth has read: which goes on for ever: in which every chapter is better than the one before.

C.S. Lewis -The Last Battle

Andrea,

I’ve thought a lot about our recent  conversation. All of the things we go through in life must have meaning. To think of it as just random events takes much more faith in my way of thinking than to believe  that all things serve an ultimate purpose.

We spend so much of our lives looking ahead. To better times, relief or resolution of our worries and trouble. We long for better things, “If only I were out of school, had that job, married that girl or boy”.  If only it had not turned out that way…..

It is no different when we consider eternal life that is so graciously  offered by our Lord Jesus Christ. We want to live forever but tend to see that life as beginning some time in the future. And someday when that comes we will be different, our lives will be better.

The reality is eternal life has already begun. And this life is just a cover page for the rest of the story.

The reality is we are free today, eternal life, the more and better life than we could imagine is already underway. Right now. Beginning with freedom from the the law of sin and death through the Spirit who gives life. (Romans 8:2)

When we accept this truth we begin to live differently because our desires become  different. And as we set our minds on the desires of the Spirit  (Romans 12:2) eternal life begins now.  Free from the slavery of sin, redeemed and forgiven. Our life here on earth becomes the cover page for the story that has not yet been told. And the best part is yet to come.
