Guilty Until Proven Innocent

Sen. Mazie Hirono, D-Ha. “Not only do women, like Dr. Ford, who bravely comes forward, need to be heard, but they need to be believed.”

We are seeing an unprecedented attack on our justice system. I do not have a problem with Ms. Ford coming forward with her story 35 years later ( I will admit the timing is suspicious) I do have a big problem with the actions of politicians and lawyers who are changing the foundation of our legal system, innocent until proven guilty. Tucker Carlson makes an observation that should worry all of us.

If the Bill of Rights doesn’t apply to Brett Kavanaugh, it probably doesn’t apply to you, either.

Carlson states “It’s not just Kavanaugh under assault. Elected officials have announced they no longer believe in our Western understanding of justice. There’s no precedent for that. It’s stunning.

“I just want to say to the men in this country, ‘Just shut up and step up. Do the right thing for a change,'” said Sen. Mazie Hirono, D-Ha. “Not only do women, like Dr. Ford, who bravely comes forward, need to be heard, but they need to be believed.”

Read her words carefully. She is saying all men are guilty, not because they’ve been proven guilty, but because they are men. They are inherently guilty, by their nature. All women must be believed, not because we can show they’re telling the truth, but because they are female. Sen. Richard Blumenthal, D-Conn., graduated from Yale Law School. Apparently, he skipped the class on the Constitution.

“We have a constitutional duty to get to the bottom of these allegations,” he said. “They are serious, and credible. And now, the person with the most knowledge about them, namely, Judge Brett Kavanaugh, has a responsibility to come forward with evidence to rebut them.”

Got that? We accuse you of a felony. Your job is to show you’re innocent. You’re a sex criminal, prove you’re not.

We have tried to get to the bottom of Christina Ford’s claims regarding Judge Kavanaugh. We would like to know if something terrible happened to her and who was responsible. But there are key questions that must be answered.

When did this alleged assault take place? Ford can’t say. When did it happen? She doesn’t know. Where are the witnesses to this? Well there aren’t any. The few people Ford has named deny it happened. When was this first reported to authorities? Well, it never really was.

We are observing a systematic attack on not only the bill of rights, but also basic human rights. If you are a male accused by a female, without evidence or witnesses you are guilty until you prove you are innocent. From where I sit the sole reason for this unsubstantiated accusation is to preserve an that would be disrupted by the confirmation of Judge Kavanaugh. And they’re willing to do whatever is necessary including destroying the reputation of a man who has lived an honorable life and is still innocent until proven guilty.

That is not the way it works in our society regardless of the accusation. And unless their is verifiable evidence and witnesses it should not work that way for Mr. Kavanaugh.

I have been increasingly disappointed with our political system on both sides of the aisle. I traditionally vote Republican because in the past they identified more closely with the things I believe is important. We have Republican majority in the House and Senate a president who claims to be Republican and yet we still do not have an answer to healthcare law that was pushed up on us. We have not secured our borders and babies are still killed on demand.

If the Republicans fail to support and confirm mr. Kavanaugh in the absence of verifiable witnesses or evidence I will no longer support the Republican Party’s candidates in the future or in the November elections. If they do not represent me by standing for what is right and good and our nation which they have promised to do they do not deserve my vote.
