New Year-pt. 2

Help me to not jump to conclusions and assume that I know what someone is feeling or saying.  In the words of James remind me to be quick to hear and slow to speak. And even slower to judge.

Help me in all things and situations to be gentle and kind.

Help me to speak encouraging words to everyone.

Help me to listen really listen for what is being said and what is not.

God created us to be relational. And it is reasonable to assume that this is the area in which the enemy works the hardest to disrupt and destroy.
As you probably have guessed based on the opening lines of this post this is the area that I feel needs the most work in my life.
I have a wonderful wife, children and grandchildren who love me and friends that I am so grateful for.
But sometimes it is easy to take these blessings for granted. Our greatest enemy in relationships is familiarity and sometimes we allow careless words and actions to wound, to harm those we care about the most.

If I had one resolution for the coming year it would be to resolve to be a better husband, father, grandfather, friend.
To be mindful of the help that I need being human to treat those who I have been blessed to have in my life with the love, patience, kindness, understanding and respect they deserve and need.
To never take for granted the love and friendship they bring to my life. When I am able to do this I know it pleases the One who has made everything possible. The One who has blessed me far beyond what I could ever have asked or imagined. The One who said we show our love for Him by loving others.

Happy 2019 to all of you!
