“Now at last they were beginning chapter One of the great story no one on earth has read: which goes on forever”. I love this line at the end of the Last Battle by C.S, Lewis

I believe everyone has a story to tell and more than we know, we are all part of a greater story that someday will be revealed in full.  For now, we can only see a dim and blurry picture of things”. 1 Corinthians 13:12. My story is not remarkable, although the events I have had the privilege of witnessing are.

I grew up in the south “the land of cotton” and the old times there were definitely not forgotten., I remember where I was and what I was doing when JFK and Martin Luther King were murdered in Dallas and in Memphis, I remember the Civil Rights movement a time of great unrest and change. The dawning of the “Age of Aquarius” in the late 1960’s was also the dawning of my love for playing music, a love that would lead me as Bilbo said “there and back again” ( ironically the Hobbit was published on September 21st 1937 the same day as my birthday although not the same year) And on that October day in 1978 when I was miraculously and wonderfully saved it would naturally follow that I would take that love of music and use it to serve the One who created music. All that followed is a story for another time.

If there are chapters to my story, one would tell of my precious wife of 20+ years who endured so much and stood beside me through the good and the bad. One would describe the blessings of being a father and a grandfather. One would be about how despite being “the wretch” the song sings about God was able to change me, use me to influence others lives, make me a servant in His church, and surround me with friends all because of His goodness.  Jimmy Buffett wrote these words in one of my favorite songs

As a dreamer of dreams and a travelin’ man
I have chalked up many a mile
Read dozens of books about heroes and crooks
And I learned much from both of their style

In all of my travels and all I have read nothing is greater than where I am headed. The place where my story ends and the story that goes on forever begins! And these words that will keep me going until I get there.

“For God so loved the world that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him will not perish but have everlasting life”. John 3:16

My prayer is that as you travel with me through my writing, that it will in some way speak to you, and encourage you as your story is being written. And draw you ever closer to the One who loves you so very much!

  1. You just never know where the Holy Spirit will lead you for inspiration, encouragement and teaching, but I am so thrilled that He led me to a fellow “laborer” in the fields! Thanks for stopping by my new blog. I haven’t hardly gotten it off the ground and the Lord has opened the door to several other ministries such as yours. I Praise Him for that. I look forward as time permits to read more of your inspiring work as I set up a schedule so I can read other blogs when I’m not writing.
For now, God bless you richly for your willingness to use your God-given gifts and for your heart of service (ministry) to the Lord and to all of us who stop by!!

  4. You “About” is filled with the hope of the whole world.
Sincere, open and honest. You asked if, by visiting your blog, I found inspiration… It is found in this message about you…. and the hope you raise before the world.

May the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob bless and keep you and yours. Now and always forever more.

    1. Thank you Betsy for your words of encouragement. Our testimonies are God’s signature on our lives for all to read. When I began this blog I wanted to provide something challenging but at the same time affirm, that with God’s help we could realize and fulfill His purpose for us (Ephesians 2:10). Praying that you and your family would enjoy the most blessed Christmas and the peace that passes all understanding.

  6. I found this very inspiring and as you said, we each have our story. May the Lord continue to guide your steps and fill you with His peace, joy, and love as you continue your journey with Him in 2015 and thank you for visiting my blog.
