I Am Guilty

2017-05-25-10-06-49--1894753029

What did I bring
To your salvation table?
I had
no righteousness to offer,
no strength to give,
no wisdom to present.
There was
nothing
that I could deliver
that would commend me
to You.
I crawled broken
to your table,
weighed down and crippled by
my sin,
my guilt,
my weakness,
my foolishness,
my pride,
my shame.
I had no right to be with you,
but you picked me up
and placed me there.
You fed me the life giving nutrients
of grace
with your nail scarred hands.
And I haven’t left your
table of mercy since.

“What then, shall we say in response to this? If God is for us, who can be against us?”

The Days of Noah

Noah 1

“What will be the sign of your coming, and the end of the age?”

The disciples and many throughout the ages have asked these questions. In Matthew 24 Jesus outlines events, some familiar and expected, some spectacular and frightening that will occur prior to His return. There have been those since that time until now who have attempted to predict when the end would come despite Jesus warning:

“No one knows the hour or the day, not even the messengers in heaven, not even the Son. Only the Father knows”.

But there are signs and warnings Jesus clearly said we could know.

In our time we are observing many things that would indicate that His return is indeed near. Wars and distress, natural disaster and famine, genocide and oppression . Persecution of the church is increasing and as I wrote last year in a post titled “Antichrist” deception by the enemy and his opposition to the true Gospel of Jesus Christ is well underway.

Jesus knew this would occur and begins with a warning:

“Take care that you are not deceived”

Jesus then describes in detail what these signs will be.

“Wars, the violent breaking apart of a sinful world, famines and earthquakes are the beginning. The end is still unfolding”.

“Persecution will increase”

“They will hand you over to your enemies, who will torture you and then kill you, and you will be hated by all nations because of Me.”

“And many who have followed Me and claimed to love me and sought God’s kingdom will turn away-

they will abandon the faith and betray and hate one another”

“Love will grow cold”

” False liberators and false prophets will appear, and they will know a few tricks”

“the only thing that will grow is wickedness”

“For the tribulation will be unparalleled”

“hardships of a magnitude that has not been seen since creation and that will not be seen again”

” when you see the wars and the suffering and the false liberators and the desolation’s, you will know the Son of Man is near—right at the door.”

Matthew 24

As a boy growing up in Nashville Tennessee there was no need for a weather forecaster to tell me when a storm was coming. The sky would become dark in the west hours before the storm arrived and you knew it was on its way. This is the picture I see in Jesus words “the Son of Man is near—right at the door!”

After explaining what would take place before His return Jesus drives the point home with a reference his disciples would be very familiar with “As it was at the time of Noah, so it will be with the coming of the Son of Man.” Good Jewish boys having read the sacred scriptures, would understand two things immediately

1. A time would come when the world would be unimaginably evil

2. This would be a sign the end was near

What was it like in the time of Noah?

In Genesis 6:5-7 we find this description

The Eternal One saw that wickedness was rampaging throughout the earth and that evil had become the first thought on every mind, the constant purpose of every person. At that point God’s heart broke, and He regretted having ever made man in the first place

Genesis 6:11-12

“They (Noah and his family) lived at a time when the world had become vile and corrupt. Violence was everywhere. God saw that the earth was in ruins, and He knew why: all people on earth except Noah had lived corrupt lives and ruined God’s plans for them. He had to do something.”

Wickedness is the culture of the day. So much so that evil and the doing of evil is the number one item on everyone’s agenda. Violence is everywhere, the earth is in ruins and God regrets he ever made his crowning creation.

“God saw man in his quest to be his own god had chosen a corrupt life. A life apart from God. In the process ruining God’s plans for him. The only solution was to save “one person whom the Lord could not let go of—Noah—because this man pleased Him” his family, and “wipe humanity, My special creation, from the face of the earth—humans, animals, creeping things, and birds of the sky—for I regret that I ever made them”. Genesis 6

“The definition of evil in the Bible falls into two categories: evil against one another (murder, theft, adultery) and evil against God (unbelief, idolatry, blasphemy).*

In their day and in ours not much has changed. We see a continual increase in

1. Evil against one another

2. Evil against God

……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………But In Noah’s and the disciples day man had little hope of change, to be free from the evil desires and sin that gripped him. The coming of Jesus changed everything. No longer are we at the mercy of sin and evil desires with no hope of change. And everyone has a chance to be saved from the judgement that is coming. Over the past months I have watched with horror, sadness and anger at the evil and violence that is taking place in our world. The Holy Spirit keeps reminding me-

The answer is Jesus.

The answer to violence, the answer to evil, the answer to ISIS, the answer to sexual sin, the answer to all the gods the world can produce, to evil and wickedness and oppression.

The answer is Jesus.

In Acts 4:11-12 the words of Peter still ring loud and true

“There is no one else who can rescue us, and there is no other name under heaven given to any human by whom we may be rescued”

The answer is Jesus

Matthew 28:18-19  Even though we can and should observe the events leading up to His return it should not be a cause for fear but rather an urgency to be about His business and the command He gave us “I am here speaking with all the authority of God, who has commanded Me to give you this commission: Go out and make disciples in all the nations”.

Ephesians 1:9-10 He has enlightened us to the great mystery at the center of His will. With immense pleasure, He laid out His intentions through Jesus,  a plan that will climax when the time is right as He returns to create order and unity—both in heaven and on earth—when all things are brought together under the Anointed’s royal rule.

He will come but there is work to do while we wait!
Even so come Lord Jesus

Amen!

Yom Kippur

yom kippuryom kippur 2 Yom Kippur begins at sunset today Friday October 3rd and ends at nightfall Saturday October 4th.
This is the holiest day of the year for Jewish people and is focused on atonement and repentance.
Sadly they are still waiting for the One who has already provided both to come.
Pray that in the coming year the Jewish people chosen by God would come to know the Messiah Jesus Christ.
