Memorial Day

memorial day 3 This Monday May 25th at 3pm we pause for a moment of silence to remember all those who have given their lives for our country. As I write this I am reminded of the men and women in our military and their families,  past and present who have answered the call to serve us and our nation and those who have made the ultimate sacrifice. They are not forgotten….. memorial day 7memorial day 9 Presently according to the RAND Corporation (full pdf of study), a study by the Congressional Research Service, the Veterans Administration, the Institute of Medicine, the US Surgeon General, we have at least 20% of Iraq and Afghanistan veterans suffering PTSD (Post-Traumatic-Stress-Syndrome)  and/or Depression. (Military counselors that have been interviewed state that, in their opinion, the percentage of veterans with PTSD is much higher; the number climbs higher when combined with TBI. Traumatic-Brain-Injury). Many from the Vietnam War era still suffer from PTSD. It is fitting that we remember those who gave their lives for our country, but we must not forget those who still live daily with the burden of war. memorial day 4IraqWarMemorialkorean war To all past and present I salute you, and thank you.
